Our Mission

Our mission is simple and straightforward: Continue the work that Jesus Christ commissioned after His death, buriel, and resurrection; Preach the gospel and teach God's children how to live. Following Christ's teachings, we strive to show His love, and do good to all men, especially to the household of our Lord.

Objectives

Our objectives are to plant and mature autonomous congregations of the Lord's church, and to be salt and light to a lost and dying world. Just as Christ ministered to the world through compassionate good deeds,  so we strive to share His love with those around us.

History

Kim Rowell’s work began in Panama in 1984 with a campaign in the city of David, Chiriqui where over 100 precious souls were brought to Christ. In the decades that followed, Kim traveled and preached in towns and villages in the Provinces (States) of Chiriqui, Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Las Tablas, Los Santos, Panama, Colon, Darien, and in the San Blas islands of the Carribean and the Pearl islands of the Pacific ocean as well. The bulk of Kim’s work was carried out in small villages along the Pacific coast of the Gulf of Panama, bordering Colombia. Kim has also worked and preached in various towns and villages in Colombia and in Nicaragua as well. PMR’s work led to the establishment of the first elders being appointed in churches of Christ in the Republic of Panama in three of those towns.

In 2007, with the refugee crisis from the civil war in Colombia, Kim led the mission to supply food, clothing, and much needed medical attention to refugee settlements and villages in the Darien jungle along the Panama/Colombia border region. Projects were also undertaken to supply these people groups with potable water, and churches were established in many villages. Model farms were established along with economic empowerment projects for women.

In 2009, with generous donations, the John Connor Brown Life center was inaugurated in honor of Conor, an outstanding young man who had made yearly trips to many of the villages during summer mission trips with youths from Texas. Connor was taken from us tragically in an auto accident, and the Center honors his name and remembers the work in which he collaborated as a young man. In 2010 PMR cut 42 kilometers of road in the jungle connecting 5 area villages to the JCB Life Center.

After a decade of serving refugee communities and villages in the border region, a peace accord was struck between the Colombian Government and the FARC (communist rebels who had been backed by Cuba, Russia, and Venezuela in their 50 year attempt to topple the democratically elected government.) Following the peace accord, most of the atrocities ceased and the urgent need for ongoing assistance subsided. It is estimated by the UNHCR that there were over 7 million refugees as a result of those atrocities. Colombia leads the world in the number of men, women, and children who have been killed or maimed by the landmines that protected drug fields and guerrilla encampments.

Our Current Focus

Since 2017 PMR has focused on planting and maturing churches in strategically located towns and villages along the Panamerican highway and in marginalized communities. PMR has been holding training seminars and training workshops to help mature churches, prepare christians for service, and organize churches so they may apply for, and receive legal recognition from the Panamanian government.

In 2019, PMR was given the opportunity to teach English as a Second Language using the Bible and was given access to over 1000 young men and women in the university system. Funds are currently being raised for this important outreach. 2020 has presented the world with new challenges, but we will adapt and use technology to take full advantage of these open doors and opportunities.
